Mateo and Helena visited Jeffery's lab at the University of Maryland in June 2021. A major goal was to pack and send Astyanax mexicanus fish to Croatia. It was a long and tiresome process but we managed to resolve all the administrative challenges and fish are now happily swimming in our fish facility in Zagreb.
Mateo stayed for another couple of weeks to learn handling and maintenance of the fish as well as several experimental procedures such as in vitro fertilization, whole-mount in situ hybridization and drawing blood. He also collected some samples which are going to be of great value for his PhD.
