We seek to integrate in situ field observations with controlled laboratory experiments.
We have two separate animal facilities, the so-called štalica (Croatian for small barn) and fish. Our barn is equipped with 6 incubators that vary in size, temperature and lighting to facilitate housing and experimental setup for a range of aquatic and terrestrial animals, including planarians, mollusks and arthropods.
In fish, we culture the Mexican cavefish Astyanax mexicanus. We designed and built a custom facility with independent rack systems and fully automated water control. Both animal facilities contain a separate darkroom for experiments. The modular design of our facilities allows us to conduct short- and long-term experiments simultaneously.
